Rocket blasting off

Section heading

Since founding the firm in 2015, we’ve kept our heads down, backed a small number of companies with large, concentrated checks, and let the companies do the talking. We like working this way, and we think the founders we back like it too.

But a name is one of the few things a firm says about itself, and, a decade in, we decided to choose a name that tells you something about who we are and what we think matters in this business.

Lithos.

Lithos is ancient Greek for stone. It’s the root of monolith and lithography. We picked it because it describes the job we try to do for founders. We go all in on a small number of companies and we stay, through ups and downs, and through the years when building hardware is anything but easy. Our largest investment started at $4 million and grew to $330 million invested over five years. We strive to be founders’ first call in good times or bad, and want them to be able to lean on us.

Our investment philosophy is unchanged. Few companies, so each one gets more capital, more time, and more of ourselves. Each partner sits on three boards at most, so we have the room to recruit talent, introduce customers, and roll up our sleeves where we’re needed.

We know a new name is just a name. What we’re looking forward to is the next decade of the work itself. Space, energy, robotics, autonomy, AI applied to the physical world. The backbone of the physical world is being rebuilt, and the companies doing it need investors who concentrate and commit.

To the founders and investors who’ve been with us as Linse Capital: thank you, and onwards!
